Oceanside's Wide Sandy Beaches
Home to over 183,000 people, the city of Oceanside covers over 42 square miles and is located just 35 miles from the city of San Diego. Oceanside is the most affordable coastal city in north San Diego County, and offers a diverse collection of neighborhoods, from older beach cottage style homes to master planned communities, to rowhouse style townhomes just blocks from the beach.
While Oceanside has only 3.5 miles of oceanfront, the beaches here are wide, sandy and flat. Lying in the northwest corner of San Diego County, the city of Oceanside is just south of the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton, with Carlsbad to the south, and Vista to the east. Oceanside has four zip code areas, 92054 covers most of the west, coastal areas, and 92058 covers the area that is north of the river, just south of Camp Pendleton. The northeastern area is 92057, and the southeastern area is 92056. The city is served by two school districts – Oceanside Unified in the west and Vista Unified in the east.
Oceanside is known for it’s Harbor and for it’s quaint Harbor Village with many shops and restaurants. There is a 1600 foot fishing pier, and many fine sandy beaches all along it’s oceanfront. Along the San Luis Rey River you will find the historic Mission at San Luis Rey, and a bike and walking trail that follows the San Luis Rey River from Pacific Street by the beach eastward for 7 miles.
